Sporting highlights for September and October
A quick look at some of 2016’s sporting thrills.
September and October’s 2016 sports throwback.
September:
- Luso Africa Football Club teams travelled to Corinthians Football Club’s home grounds, for Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League fixtures. The day saw Luso’s first team annihilate the home side 15-0, while Luso’s reserve side wowed the crowd with a 6-1 victory over Corinthians.
- Lambton’s talented Nigel Bakker (51) put South Africa and Germiston on the map at the 2016 World Rowing Masters Regatta, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Bakker scooped three gold medals from the five races in which he took part.
- Primrose Primary School’s Ntombi Gumede (10) qualified to compete at the South African Schools Cross-Country Championships.
October:
- Germiston City Cricket Club defeated the Benoni Northerns Cricket Club in their Fourth League match, held at the Germiston City Sports Club. Germiston beat Benoni by 156 runs, having scored 243 runs in their 33 overs. Benoni were bowled out for 87 runs.
- Nadia Calore (15), a junior black belt, won three medals at the 18th FSKA World Cup Shotokan Karate Championship, which was held in Mumbai, India.
