Simmer members selected for Rooibokke

The Germiston Simmer Junior Rugby Club congratulates its players and coach for selection into the Lions IPT team.

Germiston Simmer Junior Rugby Club is a rugby club based at the Germiston Stadium.

The club services the surrounding community and provides each and every child in the community the opportunity to learn and play the game of rugby.

“We believe in supporting our youth, and strive to enhance their skills,” said chairman of the club Vincent Herselman.

“Rugby is a great option for your son or daughter, starting from u-7 right up to u-18.

“We give them the opportunity to play a game that will teach them how to be a leader on and off the field.”

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club is affiliated to the Golden Lions Rugby Union and competes against 14 other clubs in their league.

Youth club rugby has gone through transformation over the last couple of years and the direct involvement of the Golden Lions Rugby Union and the BokSmart National Rugby Safety Programme has created a professional, healthy and safer playing environment for all players, coaches, referees and spectators.

“Our u-13 to u-18 players recently had the opportunity to go to the Lions IPT trials.

“The Lions IPT team is known as the ‘Rooibokke’.

“This team is selected from all 15 youth development clubs which fall under the Golden Lions Rugby Union in the province and the final 22-player squad is entered into the annual IPT tournament.

“The players get the opportunity to play against other unions like the Bulls, Falcons and Sharks,” said Herselman.

This year eight players and one coach were selected for this opportunity and the club congratulates them on their achievement and wishes them well in their upcoming games.

The selected players are Gerhardus Booysen (u-16), Jeandre Kruger (u-15), Jimmy Ledwaba (u-15), Leon Theunissen (u-16), Johandre Carlse (u-13), Arno Vermaak (u-13), John Castlemaune (u-13) and Lee Towsen (u-13).

The coach selected is Andre Carlse, the assistant coach for the u-18 team.
