Lucky Birds FC wins VLFA u-13

The Vosloorus-based Lucky Birds FC u-13 team won the Vosloorus Local Football Association (VLFA) league after defeating Overflow FC 1-0 at the Vosloorus Ground D on October 21.

The only goal that separated the two sides was scored by Asemahle (Ozil) Mphaphama after receiving a pass from Bukgatso (Bob) Bukgantsho.

It came in the dying minutes of the game – seven minutes towards the end of the game.

Luck Birds FC manager Muzi Mbuyisa said this was the toughest game they have ever played.

“Both teams were playing attacking football from the word go. That is why it was hard for both teams to find the back of the net,” said Mbuyisa.

He asked for the support of parents as they have a difficult challenge ahead of them.

“This win means we have tougher challenges ahead of us as we are going to play in the regional league next year.

“It is not for the first time that we are going to participate in the regional league. We won the league in 2013 and had to play in the regional league in 2014, but because of a lack of financial support, we ended up missing out on playing two games we should have won. Had we won those games, we would have won the regional league,” Mbuyisa told Kathorus MAIL.

He pleaded with parents to support their children financially.

“It is very important for parents to support their children because soccer and school go hand-in-hand. Educated people say ‘a healthy mind lives within a healthy body’. Soccer practice it is where children refresh their minds.

“If parents support their children they will go a long way in their soccer careers,” explained Mbuyisa.

He added that two of his players are at the Star of Africa Academy.

“The academy is owned by former Kaizer Chief assistant coach, Forouk Khan,” said Mbuyisa.

Since Khan started his academy, he has produced big names in South African football like May Mahlangu (abroad), Tukelo Rantie (abroad), Jabu Pule Mahlangu (retired as a player but played in Tukey and is also a former Kaizer Chiefs, Supersport United and Orlando Pirates player), Kaizer Motaung Jnr (retired but sources inside Kaizer Chiefs said he is awaiting the team’s chairmanship should Kaizer Motaung decide to retire. He also played in Germany and for Kaizer Chiefs. Tefu Mashamaite played for Wits FC, Kaizer Chiefs and is now with Suppersprt United while Sibusiso Khumalo played for Supersport United and is now with Kaizer Chiefs. Luther Singh is also abroad.

All players have donned the Bafana Bafana jersey.

VLFA is an u-13 league.
