Wrestlers honoured at prize-giving
Members of the Raptors Wrestling Club in Primrose were honoured at the recent Eastern Gauteng wrestling year-end prize-giving.
Several members of the Raptors Wrestling Club were honoured at Eastern Gauteng Wrestling’s year-end prize-giving function.
The event was held at the Brakpan Indoor Sport Centre last Saturday.
The Primrose-based club was thrilled to be awarded the Club of the Year trophy, an honour that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of each and every Raptor wrestler, parent and volunteer.

Other awards included:
• Long Term Participants Development (LTPD) awards went to Connor Bester and Rico van der Westhuizen. This special award is for wrestlers eight years old and younger who are rewarded for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
Raptors Wrestling Club wrestlers were honoured at Eastern Gauteng Wrestling’s year-end prize-giving last Saturday. At the event, Connor Bester was awarded a Long Term Participants Development (LTPD) award. He shows off his trophy with the help of Heinrich Els.
• Wiandru van Rooyen was named Wrestler of the Year in the u-10 age group and received his Eastern Gauteng colours.
He was also commended for his second place at the Youth South African Championships as well as the medals he won in several other tournaments during the year.
• Raptors’ coach Dewald de Wet was named the Eastern Gauteng Coach of the Year.
He also received his Senior Eastern Gauteng colours at the awards.
This small club, situated at the corner of Oak Avenue and Quince Street in Primrose East, prides itself on teaching its students about etiquette, self-control, concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and discipline in a fun and safe environment.
