Another win for Germiston

Germiston City Cricket Club continued their successful Easterns Cricket League campaign on the weekend.

It was a beautiful sunny day on Sunday when Germiston City Cricket Club took on the strong Avion Cricket Club from Kempton Park in their Executive League match at Germiston City Sports Club.

After losing the toss, Germiston took to the field in their new cricket kit – complete with new hats.

The visitors only managed to score 151 runs before they were all out in just 32 of their allotted 50 overs.

Three Germiston bowlers took three wickets apiece: Pieter de Bruin, in five overs for just 29 runs, Brian Annandale, in six overs for just 18 runs, and Pieter Roodt, in five overs for just 15 runs. Reynaard van Rooyen chipped in with one wicket in six overs for 30 runs.

“It was an all-round excellent bowling and fielding performance by the team,” said club chairperson David Ungerer.

Germiston then took their turn at the crease, passing the target with 152 runs in just 32 overs. A solid 60 runs from van Rooyen, supported by 37 runs from Pieter Kuyper, secured a four-wicket victory for Germiston.

Van Rooyen was nominated as player of the match by his teammates.

In the Saturday Second League, Germiston took the log points after Nigel Cricket Club confirmed would not be able to play three hours before the scheduled start.

This weekend the club will travel to Alberton to face Eden Park Cricket Club in their Saturday Second League match.

On Sunday the club will face Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club in their Executive League match, Benoni Northerns Cricket Club in the Promotion League, and Tsakane Cricket Club in the Presidents League.
