Golden jump for Aaron

Pedro Aaron shares his success at the CAA Southern Region Youth and Junior Championships.

Germiston’s Pedro Aaron (19) has been on a high since celebrating his success at the recent Athletics South Africa (ASA) u-18 Youth and u-20 Junior Championships and securing his place in the South African team to compete in the CAA Southern Region Youth and Junior Championships.

During the championships, which were held in Boksburg recently, Aaron managed to wow the crowd once again when he took home gold in the u-20 long jump event.

He secured his victory with a 7.39m jump, 71cm ahead of his nearest competition.

Coach Stephanè Kotzè felt that Aaron could have done better.

“It was not a great day for long jump,” he said.

“Aaron really hasn’t had luck with the weather this season, as well as with his take-off – which is something we can at least work on.”

Aaron hopes, with his win at the CAA Southern Region Youth and Junior Championships, he will secure a spot in the team heading to the World Championships that will be held in Finland in June.
