Germiston disappointed with loss

Germiston City Football Club travelled to Johannesburg to take on Linhill Celtic Football Club in their second Football Association (ELFA) Super League fixture.

Following a loss against Alberton Football Club in their opening Easterns Football Association (ELFA) Super League match, Germiston City Football Club travelled to Johannesburg for their encounter with Linhill Celtic Football Club.

Germiston started the match strongly and was soon 1-0 up, following a goal from Tendai Rufai.

The club continued to put the pressure on the home team and was almost rewarded for their efforts with a second goal.

However, this wasn’t to be as the ball struck the crossbar and Linhill immediately launched a counter-attack.

The attack saw the home team scoring their first goal of the match as the ball inched its way passed Germiston goalkeeper Chad Nel.

The teams went into half-time tied at 1-1.

Germiston seemed to be in a flurry in the second half, missing a number of opportunities.

The missed chances came back to haunt the visiting team when a Linhill striker took a shot at goal and the ball deflected into an empty net.

This meant a 2-1 victory from Linhill and a second Super League loss for Germiston.

Germiston’s reserve team, who were on the back foot for most of the game, managed to draw their match against the Linhill reserve team 3-3.

The club will host Musa United FC in their first home match of the season at Germiston City Sports Grounds on Saturday.
