Luso celebrate opening match win

Luso Africa Football Club celebrate impressive win against Zwide Football Club in their opening match of the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League.

Tempers flared in Luso Africa Football Club’s first match of the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League, last Saturday.

The club, who won last year’s league, faced Katlehong-based Zwide Football Club at the Germiston City Sports Club.

From the outset, both teams seemed to question almost every call from the referee, with most whistle blows being followed by angry shouts.

Luso struggled to get into the game allowing Zwide to draw first blood with a goal from the penalty spot.

After the goal, Luso tried but couldn’t seem to take any control of the fast-paced match, which saw the ball and players rushing up and down the field.

However, they managed to claw a goal back with a header from Igor Ivanov just before the break.

Leaving the teams tied 1-1 at half-time.

The second half saw a much better performance from Luso and they soon got their second goal when Fulvio Perreira converted a penalty.

Perreira shone once again, scoring the team’s third goal with a header before the final whistle blew.

This gave Luso a 3-1 win.

“It was a good start to the season with the team picking up three points away from home,” said Dylan Wilson on behalf of the club.

The second team also celebrated a victory in their match.

Despite their strong win of 5-2 Luso struggled to find the back of the net early in the match with several missed opportunities, until Balin Benissan opened the scoring.

Zwide pulled one back after a bit of poor defending from Luso, but Mario Ferreira ensured Luso went into the break with a slender 2-1 lead.

Kyle Sloan extended the lead with a well-taken goal early in the second half.

But Zwide wasn’t giving up and scored their second goal soon after.

Luso replied with a goal from Ferreira, who scored his second goal of the match straight from the kick-off.

Malibongwe Tsembeyi finished the game off with another goal bringing the score to 5-2 in Luso’s favour.

The club will host Alberton FC at Hattingh Park in their next Super League fixture on Saturday.
