Young footballers from Makause thrilled with new kit

Local businessman donates much-needed soccer kit to Burning Stars FC.

Burning Stars FC, coached by Philani Ncube, from Makause informal settlement, took pleasure in revealing their new soccer kit on Thursday.

The kit was sponsored by Primrose resident Abilio Monteiro, who bought the kit while on his travels in Brazil.

“Sport can be the saviour from social ills related to substance abuse,” said Monteiro.

“Imagine if 20 boys in every community had a person like Ncube in their lives.

“A man who, in his own personal time, nurtures the football talents of young boys and teaches them values such as time management, respect and companionship.

“Our young children would be protected from the pressures of dabbling in drugs and other things, which can ruin their lives.”

Monteiro believes community members like Ncube need to be acknowledged and celebrated for the work they do, which is why he will sponsor Burning Stars with another kit next year.

“We are grateful for this donation and Monteiro’s commitment to sponsor our boys with another kit,” said Ncube.

“This will hopefully motivate the boys to perform better and honour their roles in the club.”
