Central Gauteng Athletics host its second track event

Walkers in their respective club colours posed to be in great form and ready to represent Central Gauteng Athletics at the interprovincial Championships.

Central Gauteng Athletics hosted the second track and field league meeting of the 2023/2024 season on October 14 at Germiston Stadium.

The 5km race walking event was used to select the CGA team to participate in the upcoming Race Walking Inter-Provincial Championships.

Walkers in their respective club colours showed great form as they prepared to represent Central Gauteng Athletics at the interprovincial championships.

In the boy’s 5km walk, Yamkela Shosha clocked 27:37.68 to secure first place.

In second place was Olebogeng Chaba in a time of 31:13.17 followed by Thandolwethu Ntini.

Athletes compete in the second track and field event.

Another stunning performance came in the girl’s U7 60m event where the I Have Talent (IHT) girls dominated the race with Miekie van Wyk in first position in a time 09:59 followed by her teammates Elzane Coetzee in second place and Lume Erasmus in third.

“The boys U13 100m event provided great competition among athletes with Chibuna Ehirim of IHT dominating the sprint race to clock 11.66,” said CGA communications coordinator Nongcebo Siziba.

In second place was Noah Naaido in a time of 11.98 and settling for third position was Arnord Gumunyu in a time of 12.03.

“One of the most interesting field events was the girl’s U13 discuss where Leane Korn won with a distance of 35.55.

The second place throw of 35.18 was from Kara van Eeden and Lume Hanekom came third with a distance of 34.59,” Siziba said.
