Central Gauteng Athletics host Sub Youth championships

2023 CGA Sub Youth Track and Field Championships hosted successfully.

Central Gauteng Athletics hosted the Sub Youth (primary schools) Provincial Championships on November 18 at the Germiston Stadium.

The championships were hosted following three sub youth leagues of which athletes were expected to participate in at least two league events and provincial championships to meet the selection criteria.

Sub Youth (primary school age) Provincial Championships was hosted in Germiston Stadium on November 17 and athletes came in numbers to compete in various sporting codes.

The girl’s U7 60m event was dominated by the I Have Talent athletes as Mieke van Wyk claimed the first place in a time of 09:51 followed by her teammate Lume Erusmus in second position in a time of 09:93. This place went to Elzane Coetzee clocking 10:11.

In the middle distances boys U11 1 200m event, Indiphile Myeki of KAC secured a gold medal in a time of 3:38.00.

Securing a silver medal, representing Boxer Athletics Club, was Philani Luthuli with 3:48.54 and taking home a bronze medal was Armand Botha of UTS clocking 3:49.34.

CGA athletes compete during the Sub Youth (primary school) Provincial Championships.

“In the girl’s U11 1 200m event, we also witnessed great competition among the athletes with Mahlatse Mamonyane of East Athletics Club taking gold in a time of 3:58.97.

“Silver went to Katelyn van Staden with her time of 4:00.42 and closing the podium with a time of 4:02.44 was Kgomotso Pholoanyane,” said CGA communications coordinator, Nongcebo Siziba.

In the girl’s U13 shotput finals, Lanelda Herbst and Megan Cunha took charge of the event taking home the gold and silver medals with a throwing distance of 10.61 and 10.30 respectively. Securing a bronze position with a distance of 10.04 was Mijuan Badenhorst.
