Venter said for the club to meet its goals they need financial support from local businesses.

The club has been part of the community for over 70 years.

This year it will be no different as the club plans for a few similar events for their 2024 projects.

According to club chairperson Clinton Venter, the club has innovative projects planned that will improve the community.

“Our goal is to enhance both the security surrounding the club and the state of the fields. The lights also require some care,” said Venter.

“Our primary goal is to begin nurturing talent at a young age. Since our neighbourhood is impoverished and we are aware of their hardships, we also require a soup kitchen to provide food for the children.

“During the school holidays, some of these children go without the essential meals.”

Elsburg Eagles Rugby Club share exciting plans for the community.

“We will wear your brand name on our first team shirt if you sponsor us,” said Venter.Director of rugby and coach Eben Barnard said they aim to repeat their past years’ achievements.

“We recently won the Nigel Sevens competition. Twenty teams participated with teams from Middelburg, Ekurhuleni, Pretoria and other areas,” said Barnard.

“The idea is to work with local schools and develop talent from there. Our biggest project is to start working with juniors in primary school.

“The dream is to have an inclusive club; we also want to have a ladies’ team. The new committee is working towards ushering the club to new heights,” said Barnard.

“Our focus is to win the league and inspire a generation of talent. We want parents and the community to come to our home games, fill up the spaces and enjoy the sport. We want to revive that sense of community back.

“We won the Merlin League two years in a row and we also won the Kestrel League.

“As the year begins, we also call for new coaches and players. To join, visit our Facebook pages to find a link or contact us at 069 381 2663 or Clinton at 084 206 8039,” said Barnard.
