Simmer bags triple victory over Union Knights
Despite a narrow loss by the U19 side, the overall performance left fans buzzing with pride and excitement.
It was a weekend of triumph, talent, and teamwork at Simmer Rugby Club, as three teams – seniors, seconds, and U21s – secured wins over Union Knights in front of a jubilant home crowd.

Senior team shines with 59–11 victory
The match started off tight, but the momentum shifted dramatically after left wing Sinethemba Dawethi made a dazzling break down the sideline to score his first of two tries.

That moment shifted the team into high gear. The forwards dominated the scrums and lineouts, while the backs delivered precise passes and electric runs.
Bertie Erasmus capped off the game with a crowd-pleasing try under the posts, following a slick pass from the scrum-half.

Captain Brandon ‘Coles’ Haywood praised his team’s unity. “It was a tough match, but we worked together and came out on top. We’re proud of every single player,” said Haywood.
The Simmer man of the match, Claton Gindan, scored two tries in an all-round display. Additional try scorers included Tiaan Ramat, Neo Tshipe, Shawn de Wet, Brandon Fivaz, and Dawethi (2).
Conversions were added by Ruan Botha (3), Boeboe Perries (3), and Neo Tshipe (1).
The senior team is already gearing up for their next challenge against Ennerdale on May 3.

Not to be outdone, Simmer’s second yeam delivered a flawless performance. From the opening whistle, it was clear they meant business. Their teamwork and cohesion shone through as they outplayed Union Knights in every department.
Dipono Malatji impressed with tough tackles and a sensational try, while Calvin Klein earned the man of the match honours for scoring two tries and setting up another.
Other scorers included Emma Lukusa, Junior Nsibande, Siphamandla Ndaba (on debut), and Brandon Fivaz. Bellvine Seabela added three conversions to seal the scoreline.
Coach Mauritz Brits was thrilled. “This win is a fantastic confidence booster. The team has been training hard, and it’s paying off.”
U21s dominate in 31–6 win
The U21s got the ball rolling earlier in the day with a clinical 31–6 win. Captain and eighth man Bryce Bannau led from the front, opening the scoring and setting the tempo with intelligent play.
Other standout performers included Dylan Botha, who returned from injury to score a try and two conversions, as well as Johandre Carlse, AJ Coetzer, and Michael Gouws, who each crossed the try line.
Man of the match Eathan Coetzee put in a tireless shift, delivering dominant tackles and strong ball carries.

Coach Henry Bannau commended his players: “Every one of the boys excelled. The unity and energy on the field were incredible. We’ll continue to build on this performance,” said Bannau.

U19 team fights hard in 12–5 defeat
While the U19 team didn’t secure a win, their performance was filled with grit and promise. Victor Goncalves scoring Simmer’s only try.
Despite the result, the team showcased potential, particularly in the set pieces and defensive effort. Coaches remain confident that this group will grow with each match and return stronger.
Simmer Rugby’s management praised the collective efforts of all teams and acknowledged the importance of continued growth, especially as they prepare for their upcoming match against Ennerdale on May 3 at their home grounds.
