Gauteng athletes steal the shine at nationals
CGA Stars crowned at thrilling three-day national track and field championships.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) made a strong showing at the three-day Athletics South Africa (ASA) Track and Field Championships held in Potchefstroom from April 24 to 26.
The event, marked by determination and historic moments, concluded with several standout performances from CGA athletes.
Leendert Koekemoer stole the spotlight by setting a new South African U20 record in the 400m semi-final, clocking an impressive 45.03 seconds.

In the sprints, Joviale Mbisha claimed the women’s 100m title with a commanding run, finishing in 11.55 seconds to become the new national champion.
In the men’s 400m hurdles, Sabelo Dhlamini delivered a stunning performance, winning gold with a time of 48.57 seconds.
Though he missed the world qualifying mark by just 0.7 seconds, his effort was a highlight of day two.
In the field events, Olympic contender Kyle Blignaut earned silver in the shot put after a fiercely contested final.
His display of power and precision stood out among the championship’s top moments.
Leandri Holtzhausen secured gold in the senior women’s hammer throw with a winning distance of 66.97m, adding another remarkable achievement to CGA’s medal tally.
CGA finished second overall on the medal table with a total of 23 medals: seven gold, eight silver, and eight bronze.

Acting CGA president Karabo Mabilo praised the athletes’ achievements.
“CGA athletes from all disciplines raised the standard and captivated audiences with their performances during the championships, which were a celebration of athletic excellence,” she said.
Mabilo also acknowledged the vital roles of team management, coaches, and parents in positioning CGA as one of the country’s premier athletics provinces.
