Teen turns to Tebbutt Academy karate to fight bullying
Kruger started karate in March 1st, four years ago when her father enrolled her to Tebbutts.
Mia Kruger (13) shares how practising karate has helped her to deal with bullying at school.
Her coach, Kancho Alex Tebbutt of Tebbutt Academy, said most children who are bullied at school experience a hard time.
“Karate has helped them overcome bullying, and it stops the minute the bullies hear a child is doing karate,” said Tebbutt.
Mia started karate four years ago. She said she was bullied a lot at school, but her self-confidence has improved.

“We learn to respect ourselves and others. Karate also helps me to focus in class. I now have my brown belt, and no one bullies me. I also love athletics, horse riding, and netball.
“What I like about karate is fighting,” said Kruger.
Tebbutt said she will now aim for her junior black belt.
“Lately, I’ve seen more girls joining the dojo to learn self-defence. Women are realising that they need to defend themselves,” said Tebbutt.
