Young runner Kai Hattingh impresses at Brooks Campus Run Series

Representing Nedbank Running Club, Hattingh has consistently competed in both 10km and 5km road races - distances rarely attempted by athletes of her age.

Kai Hattingh, a Grade Eight learner at Leeuwenhof Akademie, capped off an outstanding 2025 athletics season with a superb performance at the Brooks Campus Run Series.

She finished first junior lady and second lady overall in the 10km edition. There were also 5km and 15km routes.

The race marked Hattingh’s final competition of the year, closing what has been a stellar season filled with remarkable achievements.

Earlier in the year, she placed 14th at the ASA 10km Championships, held alongside the Cross Country Championships.

Her season also saw her take on elite senior competitors at major events, including the Absa Run Your City Series and the SPAR Women’s Challenge races. A standout result was her second-place finish at the Absa Run Your City Joburg 10km, underlining her ability to compete at the highest level.

Beyond athletics, Hattingh is a multi-talented sportswoman. She is also a provincial gymnast and enjoys horse riding, showcasing her versatility across sporting disciplines.

Reflecting on her season, Hattingh said, “What a year 2025 has been. So many blessings; I can’t wait for 2026.”

She also expressed her gratitude to her supporters, “A big shout-out to USN, SPAR Southern, Nike SA, and Nedbank AC. Thanks as well to Glenrose Xaba and Gerda Steyn for the inspiration.”

For the foreseeable future, Hattingh remains focused on and off the track.

“This year I will work hard again in my academics and aim to finish on the podium, with the goal of taking first place,” she said.
