22-year-old coach earns SAFA A-Licence at Germiston Stadium
"Soccer excites me because when one player loses, we all lose. When one player wins, we all win. There is a community invested in the sport. That unity is what drives me."
Ofentse Mawane, a 22-year-old football coach, recently completed his SAFA coaching A-licence at the Germiston Stadium.
He is now preparing to complete his SAFA B-licence next year.
The course runs in two phases over two weeks.

“I serve as the sports coach at Parkrun Primary School in Boksburg, a true full-circle moment for me, as this is where my own sporting journey began.

“I was privileged to attend a school deeply rooted in sports development, where I excelled in hockey, soccer, cricket, and athletics, earning multiple accolades along the way,” he added.
After high school, he briefly studied Live Performance at AFDA. Although he could not complete his studies due to financial challenges, the skills he gained in performance, storytelling, and discipline now influence how he coaches, leads, and even incorporates media into sport.
“In addition to school coaching, I run private coaching sessions under the name Play On and recently launched a women’s Zoomber fitness class called Groove On by Play On. My long-term vision is to establish and grow a competitive soccer team, building not just athletes, but a strong sporting community,” said Mawane.

“Soccer excites me because it is more than an individual sport. When one player loses, we all lose. When one player wins, we all win. Every match represents families, friendships, and community pride. That unity is what drives me.
“I set clear goals for myself. My mission is to develop players technically, mentally, and emotionally, while building a culture of discipline, passion, and excellence,” said Mawane.
