Youth Month friendly match inspire youngsters
Diepkloof Ladies FC brought inspiration to Germiston High School during Youth Month, combining football, mentorship, and motivation in a friendly match that empowered young girls and showcased rising talent in women’s sport.
Youth Month in Germiston featured Diepkloof Ladies FC inspiring Germiston High School girls through a friendly match, motivation, and empowerment.
The celebration of Youth Month was highlighted by the impact of football and the motivation it provides, as Diepkloof Ladies FC, a participant in the Hollywoodbets Super League, faced the Germiston High School girls’ team in a friendly match arranged by the Marumo Cares Foundation.

The foundation serves as the community development arm of Marumo Gallants FC, which registered Diepkloof Ladies FC. The match was held at Germiston High School on June 12.

This event formed part of Marumo Cares’ ongoing commitment to youth development and the empowerment of women through sport.
By bringing professional footballers together with aspiring young athletes, the initiative created a platform for education, motivation, and meaningful interaction both on and off the field.
In addition to the match, the day emphasised the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue their dreams and highlighted the role of sport in building confidence, discipline, leadership, and social unity.

The programme included motivational speeches from prominent figures in women’s football and education, who shared powerful messages about opportunity, resilience, and self-belief.
Jabulile Baloyi, head coach of Diepkloof Ladies and a former Banyana Banyana star, delivered an inspiring address that challenged outdated perceptions of women in sport and reminded learners that football is for everyone.
“Talent is not defined by gender,” she said.
As Diepkloof Ladies, we strive to play our hardest because we are here for her.”

She encouraged the young girls to remain confident in their abilities and to pursue football without being limited by stereotypes.
Mr Malinga, a teacher at Germiston High School, reinforced the message of empowerment by drawing on South Africa’s legacy of women-led activism. He reminded learners that unity and self-confidence are sources of strength.
“When women stand together, nothing can hinder them. You possess power,” he said.
He further encouraged the professional players to continue mentoring and guiding young athletes, emphasising the importance of creating pathways for girls aspiring to reach elite levels of football.

The highly anticipated match kicked off at 14:00 and showcased the growing talent in women’s football.
Diepkloof Ladies displayed their experience and quality, leading 2–0 at half-time before securing a 4–2 victory.
Despite the result, the Germiston High School girls delivered a spirited performance, earning admiration for their determination and fighting spirit against seasoned Super League opposition.
A standout performer was Grade 12 goalkeeper Mamello Mokotjo, whose impressive saves kept her team competitive throughout the match. Her composed and resilient display highlighted the depth of emerging talent within South Africa’s school football structures.
Sharing the field with Hollywoodbets Super League players provided the learners with valuable experience and a clearer understanding of the demands of elite-level football.
The event successfully combined competition, education, and inspiration, reinforcing Marumo Cares’ belief that sport can serve as a powerful catalyst for social change and youth development.
