Youth celebrate 20 years of democracy in song

Enjoy a music festival in celebration of 20 years of democracy.

Music in South Africa is not only for entertainment but became a formidable tool to fight the apartheid regime through songs and dance.

Twenty years since the dawn of democracy, the youth of Ekurhuleni will gather in unity to commemorate the gains achieved by the democratic order.

The Youth Festival takes place at Germiston Lake Park, this Saturday (April 5).

The Youth Festival will provide young people with an opportunity to reflect on the democratic dispensation from 10am until late.

About 10 000 young people from around Ekurhuleni are expected to converge on Germiston Lake to enjoy the festival, which brings together an array of popular South African musicians.

Already, 6 800 young people have confirmed that they will be attending the festival.

The festival will feature 20 solo and group performances in various artistic forms.

The audience can expect exhilarating performances from entertainment heavyweights such as: Dj Tira, Zahara, Zakes Bantwini, Kwesta, Tear Gas, Tbo-Touch, Donald, Shimza, MiCasa, Dj Sbu, Dj Picat and many more.

The metro will provide two buses to the festival at each of the Customer Care Centres.

The buses will depart at 9am.

Entrance to the venue is free.

However, people are required to register on www.ekurhuleniyouthfestival.co.za.

Upon registering, festival patrons will receive a SMS containing their unique code which will grant them access to the park.
