ANC LOSSES WERE NOT UNEXPECTED
I cannot say I did not expect the ANC to have its majority curtailed in the recent local government elections.
For many years the African National Congress has been slowly digging its grave by ignoring the expectations and demands of its supporters. I have supported the party since my first vote in the country’s first democratic election in 1994, and the growing complaints about ward councillors who have been unable to attend to the needs of their respective constituencies were among the many reasons why the party fared so badly in these elections.
But, now that the party has heard the cries of its supporters through the ballot box, I hope that the leadership will correct the wrongs they have allowed to corrode the party’s standing in the eyes of its once loyal supporters.
