Dismay over undocumented learners
I appeal to the Department of Foreign Affairs to look deeper into this matter before it is too late.

I read your front page story about “undocumented” children at a school in Katlehong with utter dismay.
The first question that popped into my mind about these undocumented foreign children at our schools was, how did they get into the country without valid travel documents or birth certificates? And secondly, since many of them are in South Africa without their biological parents, again, how did they get through our borders without valid travel documents?
This is proof that there are thousands more foreigners, both children and elderly people, who are living in South Africa without valid documents. This creates a serious problem because these people will always remain untraceable and unknown to the authorities.
I appeal to the Department of Foreign Affairs to look deeper into this matter before it is too late. As a nation, we cannot allow people, especially children, to come and live in the country illegally. There could be serious repercussions for the country if this situation is allowed to continue. It needs to be monitored by the authorities.
I wish to applaud the school principal of Vhumbeni Primary School for taking action and involving the Department of Foreign Affairs in this matter. I find his actions highly patriotic.
