The newly elected executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Mzwandile Masina visited the community of Katlehong on Friday, October 7.

The purpose of visit was to see the areas that need urgent attention and bring about immediate and long term solutions.

According to the executive mayor they want to provide long term solutions to the problems they came to address.

“There are sections of the stadium that were supposed to be complete before 2010 but they are still incomplete. As a result the movement between stadium and the community is not good.

“The stadium is supposed to be a multi-purpose stadium and not be for sport only. We want those areas to be solved and very soon. I promise by next week you will see the change taking place.

“As for the pond of water from the pipes that disturbs movement of children who are going to the nearby school, we are bringing practical solutions to it. By Monday you will see that we are doing something about that too. We also want a long term solution to that problem too,” said Masina.

A community member, Dumisani Dlangamandla from Khalambazo section, said they want mayor’s care.

“The mayor must not forget us now that we have voted for him. He must listen to us and pay us regular visits like he did today. We appreciate his visit today.

“We want the park to be improved and have lights at night because there are people who rob people at night here in this park,” said Dlangamandla.

Dipuo Kabai from Shongweni Section said they appreciate the mayor’s visit.

“It means he has our best interests at heart, but I think he has to address the issue of youth unemployment. I will go around with him and his crew whereever he goes today until he delivers his speech. Maybe I will hear him mentioning the issue of unemployment,” said Kabai.

Another excited community member by the name of Busi Majola from Nhlapho Section said that she never expect to see someone who is so humble.

“He is such a humble character if you look at the way he talks to people and the way he is dressed today shows the humble character he possesses.

“One of the things I would like him to do for us as the community is to change the way the park looks. We want the park to have gym equipment.

“He must also change his words to real action about electrifying of informal settlements,” said Majola.
