Local upcoming hip-hop artist flying Kathorus flag high
"That CD has nine tracks. I am also about to release a single titled 'AmaGrootman' which is a tribute to Mandoza."
Sive Ravuku (29), famously known as Monde GP in the music industry, spoke to Kathorus MAIL about his overseas visit.
“I was born in Khayelitsha in Cape Town, and I moved to Alberton at the age of eight to stay with my father so that I could get a better education.
“I went to Rosebank College to study internet engineering where I obtained a diploma and graduated in 2009.
“Then I was recruited as an intern by a company called ADvTech.
“I felt a need of doing something for my grandmother, so I decided to come up with a plan of making more money.
“As a result I came up with a plan to do music. The type of music that I am doing is a fusion of hip-hop and kwaito elements,” said Rakuvu.
Rakuvu has so far released two albums and performed overseas.
“I have released an album with lifestyle entertainment called ‘Thank You’ in which I thank the fans and all those who contributed to my overseas trip success.
“That CD has nine tracks. I am also about to release a single titled ‘AmaGrootman’ which is a tribute to Mandoza.”
Rakuvu said his overseas experience was a dream come true.
“My trip was paid for by the government after I wrote a profile and pleaded with them to help. Because of my humble gesture it was not difficult to get help from them, and the fact that the two events I went to in New York City (USA) in October 2015 and Barcelona (Spain) in August 2016 are in their calendar. My trips have transformed me from nothing to somebody.”
“In New York I shared the stage with a number of artists, small and established artists. The aim was not to make money but to gain knowledge that could use to improve local talent.
“At Barcelona I rubbed shoulders with the likes of Pusha Tee, from Kanye West’s stable.
“Ever since I came back from abroad I have done quite a lot of things. I have a recording label called Lifestyle Entertainment. I look for talent and groom musicians that I have identified.
“I work at KMPG as a chairpoint (an IT application whereby I store company’s information online), administrator and trainer whereby I mentor and train school children about careers. That is where I make money for my clothing and production of music,“ said Rakuvu.
Rakuvu concluded by mentioning the working relationship between him and his partner Vusi Mamakamo who called himself “Vusi The Art King”.
“Because of the good relationship we have with “Vusi The Art King”, we are opening a pop store whereby we have one thing under one roof at Skhosana Section on Sunday, November 6. Our pop store will have a tattoo parlour, recording studio, photography and music video creations.”
Rakuvu mentions that he is playing a role in the local series called “Money Over Everything” and that he has released a music video titled “Kokota” where Junction SA was featured. “The video is doing well in terms of downloads and it has 109 000 views on Facebook,” he said.
