Rockville make a wrong move
“This is my second goal from the second game. As a striker it boosts one's self-confidence to score in every game,” said Xaba.
Rockville Masters FC played against All Nations FC at Vosloorus Sports Ground in the first leg of the Ekurhuleni Masters League, also known as the Keep Fit League, on Sunday, October 9.
The team from Rockville Ext 8 let themselves down by relaxing after they took the lead in the early stages of the second half.
Rockville Masters FC took the lead in the 52nd minute of the game with a goal being scored by Xolisa Mpofu. Mpofu felt good to be on the score sheet. “It is good to score as it boosts one’s self-confidence. I hope to score more goals for my team so that by the time we reach the second half of the season we will be in a better position.
“There was a time when we should have extended our lead but did not capitalise on the chances we created to put the ball in the back of the net,” said Mpofu.
Rockville was so relaxed after they scored their first goal of the game that they allowed All Nations midfielders to take control of the game. As a result of that, an equaliser was scored by Lunga Xaba in the dying minutes of the game.
“This was our second game of the league and I am very happy that we collected a point from it. This point is better than nothing as it will improve our position on the log table.
“This is my second goal from the second game. As a striker it boosts one’s self-confidence to score in every game,” said Xaba.
Thamsanqa Mpofu, a Rockville Masters player, said they let themselves down by allowing their opponents back into the game after having taken the lead. “We shouldn’t have stayed at the back as it allowed our opponents to attack us in their numbers.
“If we had held onto our lead we would have been in a better position on the log table than the position we are occupying now.
“We are occupying number 19 on the log table as we speak,” said Thamsanqa.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw. “The scoreline does not help our log position as we will not move from the position we are occupying on the log,” Thamsanqa concluded.
