Police warn the public
According to Capt Ndobe, the police have received complaints that the area has been targetted by criminal gangs and rapists who way-lay unsuspecting pedestrians and motorists.
Despite frequent police patrols and stop-and-search road-blocks manned by armed officers, the stretch of the M7, south of Kathorus, between Tsietsi and Palm Ridge, has been identified as a dangerous “crime hot spot” by the Katlehong SAPS.
This follows a series of crime reports from members of the public who have become victims of crime in the area.
The police in Katlehong confirmed that several criminal cases, among them, muggings, robberies and rape – have been brought to their attention by members of the public.
“We appeal to the public to take extra precaution when travelling on this stretch of vacant land, at all hours of the day and night,” warned the Kathorus SAPS Cluster’s media liaison officer, Capt Mega Ndobe, who emphasised the importance of the members of the public being vigilant on the open piece of land.
According to Capt Ndobe, the police have received complaints that the area has been targetted by criminal gangs and rapists who way-lay unsuspecting pedestrians and motorists.
“They wait until the police patrols and road blocks are gone and then they pounce on unsuspecting pedestrians walking between Katlehong South, Tsietsi and Palm Ridge,” Ndobe explained.
The Katlehong SAPS have also issued a stern warning to the faceless criminal gangs and individuals involved in the spate of muggings, robberies and rapes in the area. Ndobe said the crime spree waged by criminals will soon be over as detectives have already profiled the area and have compiled a modus operandi of the criminals involved.
Capt Ndobe told Kathorus MAIL that the police will be keeping the area under surveillance and promised residents the police would stop at nothing to bring normality back in the area.
