Choir concert held to raise funds for old age homes

The Ikhayalethu Service Centre, which falls under the Vosloorus Old Age Home, hosted the Greater Ekurhuleni Forum Fund-raising Concert at the Vosloorus Civic Centre on May 23.

The choral music concert for the elderly from different organisations around Ekurhuleni saw nine choirs competing with each other.

These choirs were Ikhayalethu Service Centre, Lindokuhle Home-based Care, Novensi Organisation, Thokoza Day Care Centre, Sizanani Service Centre, Bontle Buhle Service Centre, Tswaranang Service Centre, Laratong Service Centre and Tsakane Day Care Centre.

Tsidi Khanye, the co-ordinator of the event, said the purpose of the concert was to raise funds to help the hosting home.

“As NGOs we have no money, so we have decided to come up with a plan to raise funds for ourselves. Each choir that will perform will be paid an amount of money by the audience to come and perform. If the audience likes the choir that is on stage, another amount of money will be paid to keep them on stage. If the audience is unhappy with the way the choir on stage performed, they will pay an amount of money to have them removed from the stage,” said Khanye.

Khanye, who also works at the Ikhayalethu Service Centre, said all the money gained will be given to Ikhayalethu Service Centre.

She added that Ikhayalethu Service Centre will be going to completion organised by Social development in August. “We need more donations.”

Ekurhuleni Municipality helped by paying for the DJ who was entertaining the audience.
