Local coach hosts a year-end party for youth
Puncho and volunteers were committed to helping children capture the happiness of being together in celebration during the holiday season.
Local coach and ex-soccer player Hebert ‘Puncho’ Morajane hosted a year-end party on December 23 at the local Poplar Park for the members of his youth soccer initiative along with the residents of Kempton Park.
Puncho started a team to get children to do something positive and as he has the skills and background of soccer, he felt the need to contribute something to the children’s lives.
Despite not having a field to practise on, they still manage to practise at the local park on Poplar Street, even though it is not well equipped.
Puncho and volunteers were committed to helping children capture the happiness of being together in celebration during the holiday season.
All guests were served food and drinks.
“It’s very hard for our children to get a source of happiness in their lives, but we were able provide them a day of feeling special and loved.
“The parents were grateful too,” Puncho said.
“Too many young people are being exposed to a storm of hunger, physical inactivity and social disconnection and some fall to crime. We plead with the municipality to make a change in our community. Children need soccer and sports facilities.”
