Laerskool Die President opens doors to new Grade One learners

Laerskool Die President opened its doors today, welcoming a new group of Grade One learners as they began their schooling journey.

GCN visited the school to speak with the principal about the school’s readiness for the first day and to capture some of the adorable faces walking into a classroom for the very first time.

The school once again welcomed a pair of twins, Trisha and Prisha Bilankulu, among the new intake.

Rheeder shared his excitement about the first day of school, noting that teachers and parents shared the same enthusiasm.

“We want parents to know that we will do everything in our power to take care of their children. However, we also ask parents to partner with the school and always do what is in the best interest of the child,” said Rheeder.

He further highlighted that the school launched its first feeding scheme of the year on the opening day, made possible through community support and donations received last year.

At the time of the interview, the school had enrolled approximately 142 Grade One learners, exceeding the anticipated intake of 120.

This increase highlights the growing demand for school placement and the pressure faced by the Department of Education.
