Sinkhole develops on Johann Rissik Street in Germiston, traffic flow adjusted
Motorists are urged to proceed with caution after a sinkhole began forming on Johann Rissik Street, prompting temporary traffic changes.
Motorists using Johann Rissik Street in Germiston have been advised to exercise caution following the development of a sinkhole along the route.
The City of Ekurhuleni confirmed that the sinkhole began forming on January 20, on Johann Rissik Street between Junction and Main Reef roads, running parallel to the Rasta informal settlement.

As a precautionary measure, traffic arrangements in the affected area have been temporarily adjusted to ensure the safety of road users.

According to the city, the two lanes travelling in the same direction have been converted into a two-way traffic flow.
This temporary measure has been implemented to ensure traffic is managed safely while the situation is assessed and addressed.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed, remain alert and follow all temporary traffic signage and instructions when travelling through the area.

Traffic officials are monitoring the situation to minimise congestion and ensure road safety.
The City of Ekurhuleni said its Roads Department has been notified and will attend to the sinkhole to carry out the necessary assessments and repairs.
