Head-on collision leaves four dead and 26 injured
DUDUZA - Four people died and 26 were injured following a head-on collision between two minibus taxis on Fred Wegener Road between Nigel and Duduza on January 15.

When Ekurhuleni Emergency Services paramedics arrived, two people were declared dead on the scene. One of them was Grace Hlongwane, a nurse employed by Nigel Old Age Home. The other two passed away later as a result of their injuries.
Some passengers sustained serious head and spinal injuries. They were transported to the nearest provincial hospital by ambulance. Others had minor to moderate injuries and were stabilised by paramedics on the scene.
Police confirmed that one of the taxis was travelling from Nigel towards Duduza, while the other was travelling from Duduza towards Nigel and that one of the drivers may have been negligent in that he veered off towards the lane of oncoming traffic.
A case of culpable homicide was opened and is being investigated by Det Const Maphempeni from the Duduza Detective Branch.
