According to Ekurhuleni Police Chief, General Bafana Mahlabe, the off-duty officer was killed whilst fishing at Ashton Lake on January 27.
The suspects were arrested in the Daveyton/Etwatwa area the following day. They were found in possession of Major Jordaan’s stolen service firearm, a cellphone jammer and an unlicensed firearm. The police also recovered the deceased officer’s Nissan Navara, which had been stolen during the armed robbery.
“We are following a few leads at the moment, because we have information that there may have been more people involved in this particular crime,” he added.
Executive mayor of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) Mondli Gungubele has also commended members of the police and EMPD for their hard work.
“Indeed they must be commended for such great work. To make such a major breakthrough less than two days after such an incident is great news indeed,” Gungubele said. “Now that the police have made this breakthrough, we shall allow the law to take its course.”
He once again appealed to the community to intensify their stance against the killing of police officers.
