Hi-jacking foiled by EMPD
NIGEL - Two suspects appeared in Nigel Magistrate’s Court on April 8, following the hi-jacking of a Ford Ranger on the R550/R23 in Tsakane the previous day.
According to Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson Lt Col Wilfred Kgasago, patrolling officers noticed a suspect vehicle without number plates on the N17 freeway.
As they approached the VW Polo, they saw three male occupants inside and it was evident that the Polo was tailing a white Ford Ranger. EMDP closed in on the Polo and indicated to the driver to pull over. It emerged that one of the occupants had been a victim of an earlier hi-jacking and the two suspects were arrested.
“The occupants showed signs of distress and communicated with our officers through suppressed gesturing. Upon probing them, the officers discovered that one occupant is the owner of the vehicle that was being tailed, and that he had been hi-jacked earlier,” Lt Col Kgasago said.
The 63 year old victim was treated by paramedics for shock.
The Ford Ranger was later found abandoned on the N17 near Secunda. Both vehicles were taken to the police pound in Boksburg and the suspects were charged at SAPS Nigel. They appeared in Nigel Magistrate’s Court where the case was postponed, pending further investigation.
“Investigation into the hi-jacking is on-going and we are closing in on the suspects who abandoned the Ford Ranger,” Lt Col Kgasago said.
