Construction work and renovations at Nigel Municipality nearing completion

NIGEL - Ratepayers will be pleased to know that upgrading and renovation work to the Nigel Customer Care Centre (CCC) in Hendrik Verwoerd Street is nearing completion.

“The past year or so may have been the most hostile time for customers, as they were often exposed to unpleasant weather conditions, lining outside the administration office of Nigel Town Council for payments and municipal enquiries,” DA councillor Wally Labuschagne explained.

The construction and renovation process at Nigel Town Council stretched over a period of six years, during which time Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality wasted millions of rands on tender contracts and legal fees. To date, three different building contractors had been appointed through the municipality’s tender process to complete the work.

HERAUT was shown around the nearly completed building on June 27 and it is evident that the end result will be a modern, customer friendly facility with safe and secured entrances in both Hendrik Verwoerd and Breytenbach Street.

The upgraded building also fully provides for disabled and elderly people with easy access to the first floor by an elevator, as show here by Wally Labuschagne.

The official opening of the upgraded facility is expected around the end of August.
