Nigel SPCA needs dedicated people to form a committee

Nigel SPCA need people from the local community who are able to commit their time, effort and expertise to ensure the survival of the animal shelter.

“Nigel SPCA is an independently registered non-profit organisation responsible for its own survival. As it receives no financial support from government, funding remains a key factor,” Van der Merwe said in reference to numerous SPCAs that have closed permanently over the past 20 years.
Each individual SPCA needs an elected management committee, comprised of local residents which will form the SPCA board. This is the body which directs plans, organises and ensures the future of the SPCA.
”If a board or committee cannot be formed to undertake these functions, the SPCA will flounder and ultimately close,” Van der Merwe stressed.
She appealed to local residents (Nigel, Alrapark, Dunnottar and Duduza) to reach out and become part of the SPCA’s future. “The SPCA provides a service which is essential to the animals of the community. Serving on a committee need not be daunting, although it has to be stressed that it does not involve work at operation level,” she said.
