SAPS Nigel crime report 18 to 23 June

The following cases were reported to SAPS Nigel between 18 and 24 June 2018.

A burglary was reported to the Police, following a break-in at a house in Park Avenue, Ferryvale on June 18. Household items to the value of around R12 500 were stolen.

Police are investigating two cases of mag wheel theft, which occurred in Clarendon Avenue and Buxton Avenue respectively on June 18.

One person was arrested for possession of dagga on June 19. According to police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba, the suspect was arrested in the central business district. He is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police are investigating an assault case (with intent to cause grievous bodily harm) following an incident that occurred in Alrapark on June 19. The victim reported that her daughter stabbed her with a broken bottle in the forehead. She was later transported to a nearby hospital and the accused was arrested.

Three suspects were arrested by the police for possession of illegal substances (drugs) on June 19. They were charged accordingly and are expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court this week.

A case of mag wheel theft was reported on June 21. According to Sgt Dwaba, the incident occurred at a house in Sheffield Road, when the tyres of a Toyota Hilux bakkie (worth around R28 000) were stolen.

A private courier service delivery vehicle had been broken into. The incident occurred at the Indian Plaza on June 20 and according to the driver, items to the value of around R1 500 were stolen from the bakkie.

A break-in occurred at Alrapark Secondary School on June 22. According to Sgt Dwaba, members of the Alrapark CPF noticed that two classroom doors were open. Upon closer inspection they discovered the doors had been removed. When police arrived, they discovered a broken window at the back of one of the classrooms. School property to the value of around R1 000 were reported stolen.

A burglary was reported to the Police following an incident which occurred at a business in Eland Street, Alrapark on June 22. A generator worth around R8 000 was reported stolen.

A burglary occurred at a house in Doncaster Road on June 23. Several household items to the value of approximately R40 000 were reported stolen.

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following an incident which occurred on Balfour Road on June 22, where a pedestrian was killed. The accused is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.

A police constable from Tsakane was killed in a car accident that occurred on the Nigel-Dunnottar Road on June 23. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and it is suspected that he lost control over his vehicle, which capsized and rolled several times.

Two people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol on June 22. They will appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.
