A burglary occurred at a business in Third Avenue on October 1 where a toolbox containing several industrial tools, were reported stolen. The value of the stolen items amounts to roughly R10 000. No arrests have been made.
Police are investigating a case of theft, following an incident which occurred at a local brick factory on October 2.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba a suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a fan, belonging to the company.
Another theft case was reported on October 2 after a factory worker allegedly stole copper from a local train manufacturing company.
Police are investigating the hijacking of a truck, which occurred on the R42 in Nigel on October 3. The truck driver told police he was driving past the taxi rank when he was flagged down by a white sedan with blue lights. He pulled over and noted another car pulling up behind the truck. He was then approached by an armed man who ordered him to get in the back seat of the car where his face was covered. After driving around for around an hour, they stopped and the truck driver was ordered out of the car. He noted that he was next to an open veld on the Vereeniging Road. He later managed to find his way to SAPS Heidelberg where he reported the hijacking. The stolen truck (with trailer) was later recovered by Police in Vischkuil, Springs. No arrests have been made.
A burglary occurred at a house in Gazelle Drive (Alrapark) on October 3 where bedding and linen worth around R1 600 were reported stolen.
Police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property, following an incident which occurred when a thug attempted to break into a storeroom at Nigel Correctional Services on October 6. A patrolling officer reported that he heard a noise coming from the storeroom, situated at the back of the prison. He went to investigate and allegedly saw a man on the roof of the storeroom. The suspect reportedly fled the scene, leaving behind a pair of shoes. Various garden equipment, including an edge trimmer and a wood saw were found hanging from the storeroom’s roof.
A car (white Nissan 1400 bakkie) was reported stolen in Northern Road on October 6. No arrests have been made yet and according to Sgt Dwaba, the bakkie has also not yet been recovered.
Police arrested a suspect on a murder charge after the discovery of a severely burnt body in an open field next to Nigel Home Affairs on October 7. According to Sgt Dwaba, the suspect was arrested after members of the community took the law into their own hands by implementing mob justice. The identity of the victim has not yet been confirmed, according to the police he was an African male in his late 20s. Police also discovered that the victim had been bleeding profusely as a result of multiple stab wounds to the body. The suspect is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.
