Nigerian national arrested at Nigel tyre shop for drug dealing

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, drugs worth around R10 000 were seized during the operation.

NIGEL – Reacting to information provided by the public, members from the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit arrested a 28-year-old Nigerian national for suspected drug dealings at a local tyre establishment on November 28.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, drugs worth around R10 000 were seized during the operation.

“After receiving a tip off, the Drug Enforcement Unit members descended upon the business situated in Kerk Street, where a thorough search revealed more than 30 ziplock bags containing the stimulant drug Khat (a new drug – not CAT). Some of the drugs were found hidden between tyres and in addition, EMPD officers also found an unknown amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds from illicit drug dealings,” Chief Supt Kgasago said.

The suspect was charged with possession of and dealing in narcotics and he appeared in Nigel Magistrate’s Court on November 30.
