NIGEL – Police are investigating a break-in which occurred at Clicks at The Angelo Mall in the early hours of the morning on February 15.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba, the incident occurred at around 03:20. A security guard reportedly noticed a silver VW Golf (registration number CX75LRGP) with four male occupants, driving from one ATM to another. After lingering at the Absa ATM for a while, the driver reversed towards Clicks where the occupants left the car and smashed the front window of Clicks with a large rock.
“At this point the security guard concealed himself from being spotted by the suspects and saw them carrying items from the store. He immediately phoned the police and the security company to report the crime,” Sgt Dwaba said.
After the suspects fled the scene, two homeless people allegedly approached the security guard and handed him a note in which they have written down the vehicle’s registration number. They too have hidden from the suspects, but managed to write down the registration number as the vehicle sped off. Police soon arrived to find that the suspects have only taken cologne to the value of around R5 000. Nothing else was reported stolen.
“Police are following up on all leads and are hoping to make arrests soon,” Sgt Dwaba said.
