Alleged kidnappers released on bail

A decision that has left the family living in fear

Two of the men who were allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Grootvlei businessman Lokman Bhuiyan were released on R5000 bail on March 14 in the Balfour Magistrate’s Court.

The bail application of three more suspects will be heard on April 4.

Bhuiyan was kidnapped on January 9 and was held captive on a farm outside Springs for 10 days. The kidnappers had demanded R4-million in ransom.

His life was saved when both local and international police tracked him down.

Bhuiyan said that he and his family were shocked when they heard that the alleged perpetrators were granted bail.

“We have absolutely no confidence in the country’s justice system,” said Bhuiyan who also admitted that he now fears for the safety of his family.

“We feel insecure, our lives are at risk. What will stop these men from doing the same again?” Bhuiyan asked.
