There is always an alternative to abortion
HEIDELBERG – Abortion can be your last resort – there is an alternative.
Although the abortion law was legalised in South Africa in 1997, women in a crisis pregnancy certainly have an alternative to abortion.
Born2care Heidelberg was founded in 1998 when a group of professional women as volunteers at the local hospital started giving pre-abortion counselling to women in crisis during pregnancy.
With appropriate guidance, the mother and her family were able to make an informed decision about her future, as well as the future of her unborn baby.
With the help of the local community, Born2care has grown into an office with appropriate services and antenatal classes, where those who were helpless and scared can learn how to stimulate their babies into responsible adults, thus making a difference in a hopeless world.
Before the start of Covid-19, weekly antenatal classes were offered where the pregnant moms earned 100 points per class. The points would then be exchanged through a learn-to-earn concept for baby clothes and products at the shop, Second Chances.
The new world has forced restructuring and the antenatal classes will start in June as an online course where ladies can read articles on the Born2care Heidelberg Facebook page and then answer relevant questions with which they earn points to gain access to the shop.
The Born2care office and shop have also entered the new season with a new space opposite Hoër Volkskool in the Markon building at 2 Jacobs Street. The public is invited to drop in from 10am to 2pm Mondays to Fridays.
Born2care also serves women with post-abortion stress syndrome with symptoms such as guilt, anxiety, depression, flashbacks and suicidal thoughts.
They also support the mother in the step of adoption or foster care with the help of a registered social worker who provides free services to the biological mother.
Preventing crisis pregnancies is Born2care’s goal for 2021. They believe by training parents how their children can take care of their hearts from a young age, broken hearts can be prevented at a later age.
