Cambridge top of the log

Cambridge Football Club is top of the log, with four more matches to go.

Cambridge Football Club gained the top spot of the Mackenzieville Alrapark Football Association (MAFA) League, with still four more games to go before its conclusion.

The prize for the top team in the league is a spot in the SAB Ekurhuleni Playoffs.

“The club has assembled a strong and competitive team this season,” said Ignatius Maphike, a member of the team’s coaching staff.

“The club was established in 1930 and has a rich history in the Nigel for the development of young and up-and-coming talent.

“The club has produced players like Rivaldo Sofala, who is playing for Mamelodi Sundowns reserve team in the MDC league.

“We have also produced players Raglan Louw and Senzo Matshele, who are playing for African All Stars in the ABC Mostepe League.”

Maphike means the team will have to work extra hard to gain promotion and have to give their all in their four remaining games.

“With the situation of Covid level four and the looting of shops and infrastructure, it is not clear when the league will resume. It has had a negative impact on sports,” he said.

“But we will await communications from the MAFA board and the Safa Regional of Ekurhuleni.

“We would also like to give a big thumbs-up to the residents and members of the community of Nigel who stood against this act of criminality to protect what is ours in Nigel for a better future for our children.

“Our shopping centres and sports stadiums are still standing and are being safeguarded by committed members of Nigel and Alra Park.”

The MAFA Super League results sees Cambridge on top.
