Community pool will provide swimming programmes
The pool facility was handed over on October 8.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has constructed and handed over a state-of-the-art community swimming pool in Duduza with an aim to provide members of the community with free basic swimming lessons.
Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina, with MMC for Community Services Nomadlozi Nkosi, officially opened the community swimming pool valued at over R30-million on October 8.
The 25m x 25m world-class recreational facility comes standard with the main pool, children’s pool, learn to swim instructors and lifeguards.
“This is one of the many ways we are trying to transform our communities, especially in previously disadvantaged communities,” said Masina.
“Not only will these children be learning to swim, but we hope they will use this pool to develop their skills and produce professional swimmers who will represent Ekurhuleni in the world stages.
“We, therefore, appeal to the community to look after this facility as we have seen that in the past vandalism of public facilities tend to deprive our communities such amenities.”
In addition the CoE stated that the construction of the community swimming pool will not only bring joy in the township of Duduza, but it will also bring about sustainable jobs for the locals, bring youth development, promote healthy living and foster social cohesion.
Residents will be expected to pay a minimal entrance fee of R5 to access the community pool.
“Covid-19 regulations will be adhered to at the pool, with a limited number of people only to access the facility at a time,” Nkosi added in conclusion and urged the community to protect the facility.
Duduza community pool’s operating hours are as follows:
• Mondays: Closed for routine maintenance.
• Tuesdays: Saturdays: 10:00 – 17:45
• Sundays and public holidays: 14:00 – 17:45
