Scheduled load reduction to begin across Lesedi Municipality from August 5
Residents in Heidelberg, Nigel, Ratanda, Rensburg and surrounding areas will face scheduled electricity interruptions from August 5 after Lesedi Local Municipality announced a load reduction programme to ease pressure on the electricity network caused by peak demand, illegal connections and infrastructure constraints.
Residents across Lesedi Local Municipality will soon have to prepare for scheduled electricity interruptions after the municipality announced the implementation of a load reduction programme aimed at protecting the local electricity network from excessive demand.
In a public notice issued on August 3, the municipality confirmed that the load reduction measures will take effect from August 5 and are expected to remain in place until October.
The planned interruptions will take place between 17:00 and 20:30, lasting approximately three hours and 30 minutes.
The municipality said the outages will be implemented according to a published rotational schedule covering Heidelberg, Ratanda, Rensburg, Jameson Park and surrounding areas.
According to the Lesedi Local Municipality, the decision follows increasing pressure on the electricity network caused by high electricity demand during peak hours, illegal electricity connections and electricity bypassing, as well as capacity constraints within the local distribution system.
Municipal officials said the controlled load reduction programme is intended to reduce strain on the network and minimise the risk of unplanned outages and prolonged power failures.
Residents have been urged to familiarise themselves with the load reduction schedule to determine when their areas will be affected.
In Heidelberg, the schedule has been divided into five groups, with Jameson Park, Bergsig and parts of Heidelberg Central, Rensburg, Shalimar Ridge, Indian Town, Jordaan Park, Overkruin, Berg en Dal and Boschfontein Plots each allocated specific days for load reduction.
In Ratanda, the municipality has divided the township into two rotational groups. Ratanda 1 includes Ext 1, parts of Ext 3, Ext 6, 7 and 8, Tokolohong and Nooitgedacht, while Ratanda 2 includes Obed Nkosi, Ratanda Proper, Ext 4 and 5, Ext 23 and 26, and parts of Ext 3.
The municipality said residents may experience temporary electricity supply interruptions during periods of peak demand and encouraged households and businesses to use electricity responsibly to help ease pressure on the network.
