216 arrested in joint operation

The operation was conducted across Ekurhuleni and yielded successful results.

An Okae Molao operation was conducted on January 25 and 26 in the Ekurhuleni district.

“Efforts to curb the presence of various crimes in our communities continue to produce successful outcomes,” said Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, the Ekurhuleni deputy district commissioner.

The operation was conducted by members of the SAPS, EMPD, the Gauteng Traffic Department, CPF and other stakeholders in the Ekurhuleni policing precincts.

Among those arrested, 212 were caught by detectives during their suspect tracing operation.

Four people were arrested for possession of various drugs.

Of this number, 130 had committed contact crimes, three had committed property crimes, 45 were arrested for other serious crimes, 25 for gender-based violence and four for tampering with essential infrastructure.

The main operation was conducted by the Nigel SAPS on January 26 and led by Machakela.

Almost 55 traffic fines to the value of R13 200 were issued, and four people were arrested for possession of drugs. The illicit substances were confiscated.

Machakela thanked the members for their participation in the operations and the impact it made.
