Murder accused case potponed

Justice demanded for shooting.

The first court appearance of the man (72) who stands accused of shooting and killing a local community member at an accident scene on March 29 was postponed to April 6.

The accused appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail application.

The charges relate to the case where a female driver collided with a pedestrian on Stasie Street at 18:00 on March 29.

According to a statement from corporate media spokesperson for Heidelberg SAPS, Constable Doris Nkosi, the following occurred:

After the accident, the female driver contacted her father. At that time, the deceased, a pastor in Ratanda, stopped to see where he can assist and attempted to contact the ambulance service.

At the same time, the female’s father arrived at the scene. The father and pastor got into an altercation. The father threatened the pastor and his wife with a knife and said that he will stab them. The pastor went to his vehicle and got a sjambok.

It is reported that the accused then produced a firearm and shot the pastor. The accused was arrested and charged accordingly.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Heidelberg Hospital. The accused will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

At the court, there was a small gathering demanding justice for the death of the pastor.
