Nigel business robbers arrested

The four suspects were arrested in connection with a business robbery.

Members of the Nigel SAPS apprehended suspects involved in a business robbery on April 8.

Upon receiving information about the business robbery in progress at the Elm Cafe in Nigel, the members responded to the scene.

“When our members got to the scene, the business owner informed them about what transpired and gave them a full description of the suspects and the two vehicles they used,” said Warrant Officer Neliswa Dwaba, the corporate communications for the Nigel SAPS.

“Our members called for assistance, and as they drove in the vicinity of the cafe, they found a man fitting the description given getting into a vehicle that was also described.”

The members tried to stop the vehicle, but its driver drove away at high speed.

During the chase, the occupant of the vehicle shot at the members, who retaliated.

The suspect drove to Heidelberg Road and stopped after he almost lost control of the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested, and a firearm with a Linden case number was recovered.

On the other side of town, Crime Prevention members spotted the second vehicle.

The vehicle with three occupants also drove away at high speed, and the members followed.

The members blocked the vehicle at Pretoriusstad.

All three occupants matched the description given and were arrested.

All four suspects are from Meadowlands in Soweto and are aged between 32 and 46.

The Nigel SAPS station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Senzangakhona Mohale, applauded the members’ swift response.
