Tip-off leads Ratanda SAPS to seize unlicensed firearms, 2 suspects arrested

Bail was denied in the illegal firearm case.

The Ratanda SAPS received an anonymous tip-off about unlicensed firearms and ammunition on November 1, resulting in the arrest of two men.

The SAPS members went to addresses in Ratanda Ext 23 and Obed Nkosi New Phase and searched the premises, finding two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The police arrested two Zimbabwean citizens on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects appeared in Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on November 4, where the court denied them bail. A further charge was added to the docket of being in SA illegally.

Ratanda SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Muleleki Isaac Ramotshabi thanked his members, sergeants Mafika Cliff Ndlamini and Lesiba Clement Kekane, and the community.

“Unlicensed firearms and ammunition have an impact on serious crimes like robbery, murder, armed robbery and hijackings. It’s through collective effort and collaboration between the police and the community that dangerous weapons are taken off the streets,” said Ramotshabi.

Investigations into the origins of the recovered firearms continue.
