The murder case of Banele Sibiya (30), who was fatally stabbed on October 5 in Thabo Village (Zamani Section), Duduza, was postponed, but his family remains determined to see justice served.
The accused, a woman known to Banele, appeared in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on November 14 and is out on bail of R500.
During the proceedings, the magistrate asked whether the case could be moved to the regional court, but the prosecutor said the State required further evidence, including the postmortem report, photographs, and statements from two key witnesses. As a result, the magistrate postponed the matter until February 13.
The Sibiya family expressed determination and hope despite the delays.
Banele’s sister, Ntombikayise Sibiya, described him as a loving brother and a hardworking young man who was always there for family and friends.
“Losing him has left a hole in our hearts, but we will not let his death go unanswered. We will continue to push for justice and to ensure that everyone involved is held accountable. This case is bigger than just our family; it is also about showing that no one can take a life without facing consequences,” she said.
Members of uMkhonto weSizwe and other residents gathered outside the court to show solidarity with the grieving family.

Banele, who was laid to rest last month, is remembered by family and community members as a dedicated young man whose life was tragically cut short.
Thabo Mokoena, a community member, said: “It is important that the case moves forward, and the perpetrator faces the full consequences. We will support the family every step of the way until the end.”
Another community member, Lindiwe Ndlovu, said, “We demand justice for Banele, and want to see the law take its course. His death shocked the community, and we are still hurting.”
