Carjacking, armed robberies and burglaries recorded in Heidelberg
Police have urged the community to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities.
Heidelberg SAPS have released crime statistics recorded across various sectors between December 29 and January 4, highlighting incidents ranging from serious violent crimes to property-related offences.
Sector 1
Sector 1 recorded several serious crimes during the reporting period.
A carjacking and kidnapping were reported on December 31 on the Benoni off-ramp of the N3 North freeway.
Another incident of robbery with a firearm occurred on January 3 near the Kiplaagte Bridge on the N3.
A case of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm was reported on January 2 at the corner of Jacobs and Poortjie Roads in Groenfontein.
Two cases of residential robbery were also reported – one on December 30 at 33B Gousblom Street, Bergsig, and another on January 3 at 63 Protea Street, Bergsig.
A common assault case was reported on January 3, next to Plot 17 along the R23 in Spaarwater. Additionally, a case of general theft occurred on December 30 at Mayflower Street, Bergsig. Items targeted in this sector included a firearm, a laptop, sound system, plasma television, lawn mower, gas cylinder, cellphones, a wedding ring, a Samsung watch and cash.
Sector 2
In Sector 2, a case of house burglary with the intent to commit an offence unknown to the public prosecutor was reported on December 30 at the Ackermans store, 44 Strydom Street.
Two business burglaries were reported, one on December 30 at Heidelberg Lodge, 39 Van der Westhuizen Street, and another on January 3 at Shoprite, 48 Strydom Street.
A theft from a motor vehicle was reported on December 31 at China Cash and Carry, 38 Begeman Street. Police also recorded a case of theft of a motor vehicle on December 29 at 48 Viljoen Street, Heidelberg Extension 6, as well as theft of a motor vehicle on December 30 at the corner of Voortrekker and Mertz Streets.
A common assault case was reported on December 28 at Block I, Shalimar Ridge Flats, Vaal Street. Property targeted in Sector 2 included a motor vehicle, tools, a crate containing documents, a dustbin, a plasma television and vehicle lights.
Sector 3
Sector 3 recorded a business robbery on December 30 at Multi Save Supermarket on DF Malan Street in Rensburg.
Another robbery with a firearm was reported on December 30 at Heidelberg Mall along the N3 South freeway.
A case of stock theft was reported on January 1 at Lagerspoort Farm, while a common assault was reported on January 4 at 27 AG Visser Street, Rensburg. Items targeted in this sector included cattle, cigarettes, cellphones and cash.
Police have urged community members to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the SAPS emergency lines.
