8 armed suspects allegedly rob security guards and steal truck tyres in Nigel
Security guards were allegedly tied up and robbed of their belongings before suspects removed six truck tyres and fled from a waste department on Nigel Road.
Eight armed suspects allegedly robbed security guards and stole truck tyres during a business robbery at the waste department on Nigel Road in the early hours of September 18.
According to the SAPS Ekurhuleni District, the incident occurred while about five security guards were inside the guard room.
The suspects, who were allegedly wearing balaclavas and carrying firearms, approached the guards and ordered them to lie on the floor before demanding their cellphones and wallets. Police said two of the suspects were carrying rifles.
The guards were allegedly tied up with shoelaces, after which the suspects demanded their bank card PINs and transferred an undisclosed amount of money from their accounts.
While some suspects remained with the security guards, others allegedly went outside and removed approximately six truck tyres from vehicles on the premises.
The suspects then allegedly locked the guards inside the guard room before fleeing the scene with the stolen tyres. No shots were fired during the robbery and none of the security guards sustained injuries.
Police said the value of the stolen tyres has not yet been determined, while the stolen cellphones are valued at approximately R4 500.
Police have opened a business robbery case, and investigations are continuing.
